Robert McCamus first emigrated from Cavan County, Ireland and settled in the Township of Cavan, Ontario in 1820.
The McCamus family have been making maple syrup and farming in the township ever since. Just before the turn of the century the McCamus family acquired farmland in the north of the township that was plentiful in hills and sugar maples.
Prior to 1915, the McCamus family only made maple syrup for their family and neighbours. Since then the sugar bush has grown to a size that allows the family to sell maple syrup to new customers. The McCamus family has continued to produce maple syrup on the same land since 1915 without missing a single season.
The tradition carries on with pride by the whole family, with the majority work shouldered by Robert, Harry, and Robert W. with their children and grandchildren at their feet.
